This listing is for one pre-printed sashiko sampler cloth in a brown, blue - gray, burgundy or black hue. The pattern washes out of the cloth with water. Please use the pull-down box to select the color panel you would like to purchase.
This sampler was designed by Hitomi Fujita for QH Textiles. It was made in Japan and features a beautiful dragonfly, water and floral design over yarn dyed, 100% cotton fabric. This gorgeous fabric is reminiscent of silk tsumugi fabrics where the yarn is dyed before the cloth is woven. This is also called "shot fabric". The warp threads of the fabrics are black while the weft threads are either a taupe, slate blue color, maroon or white hue. The different colored warp and weft threads provide the fabric with a wonderful depth of color that changes depending on the light source. The lightweight cotton has natural slubbing giving the fabric a wonderful texture. The fabric has a subtle sheen and soft, woven texture.
The entire cloth measures about 18 1/2 inches tall x 14 5/8 inches wide (47cm tall x 37 cm wide) and the finished size of the sampler is about 16 1/8 inches tall x 12 inches wide (41 cm tall x 30 cm wide).
This cloth would be perfect for a quilt, table runner or hanging display piece. It requires about 40m of thread to complete.
**unlike hana-fukin and samplers made on sarashi (gauze) fabric this panel is not doubled before stitching**
Please refer to the last 4 photos for the most accurate representation of the colors available. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photos for a color comparison. You may select the color you would like using the pull-down menu.
Photo 7: Brown hue
Photo 8: Blue hue. This fabric is a blue-gray hue and matches the color of the "Cadet Blue" hued Crayola crayon very closely. This fabric can also have a slight green undertone in some light sources.
Photo 9: Burgundy hue. This fabric is a deep burgundy (maroon with brown undertone).
Photo 10: Black hue. this fabric is woven with black and gray yarn so that it has a grayish hue with black slubbing.
Do NOT iron the fabric prior to removing the pre-printed pattern or the pattern may not wash out completely.
To remove markings:
*Do not iron or get the cloth wet until the stitching is completed.
*Hand wash in lukewarm water with mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
*Iron while still moist on low temperature. Place sashiko cloth face down onto folded bath towel, prior to ironing, to prevent the stitching from being flattened.

Read the description! The photo does not show the actual item (it shows the suggested colors to work it in as crayons.) The actual piece is lovely, but I was very confused when ordering.

My first Sashiko project and it was so much fun!

I chose this design as it looked very original and a lovely way to utilise a collection of Sashiko threads I has been given. I really appreciated the instruction sheet that was enclosed with the fabric. I am experienced in embroidery, but have never tried Sashiko work before, so at least I feel confident I am doing it right!
