Men's unused, Silk Haori kimono jacket - black with blue woven tortoise shell kikko pattern
This beautiful, vintage Haori jacket is unused and still has its basting - stay stitches. These are the white stitches around the collar,sides and on the sleeve edges. They can easily be removed before wearing. I do not see any stains on this jacket. The only flaws I see on this jacket are on the lining. These flaws are described below.
This haori does not have closure ties. Although haori are often worn without ties, ties (Himo) can be purchased and added to the loops on the jacket.
Haori can also be used as decoration for your house. They can be hung on a wall for a beautiful accent. Men's haori are known for their beautifully painted linings and are often displayed inside-out.
This haori is created out of silk and also has a silk lining.
The exterior of the haori features a beautiful, black silk with a blue woven tortoise shell (kikko) design. The silk has a smooth, but not slippery, texture. It is of a medium weight and has a subtle sheen. Typical of tsumugi pongee it has some slubbing (bumps). The slubbing on this silk is much finer than other tsumugi silks and therefore the texture of the silk is smoother. The silk has a crisp drape and is difficult to wrinkle.
The last photo shows the color of the jacket most accurately. Crayola brand crayons were placed in the photo for a color comparison.

The jacket has a lavender gray colored silk lining for the arms and a white-gray, silk upper lining that features a hand-painted design of 2 tigers among grasses and bamboo. One of the tigers is a complete painting of a tiger and the second is just a painting of the head of a tiger. The painting is done in hues of orange-brown, gray, green and black. There are a couple of places where some of the paint transferred or smudged onto different parts of the lining. This can be seen in the 8th and 9th photos. Please note the faint, green colored paint lines. These areas are not very dark and will not be noticeable when the haori is worn.

Length of sleeves(how far the sleeves fall): 19.25 inches ( 49 cm)
**Stand with your arms spread out and have a friend measure from one wrist, across your shoulders and to your other wrist. This will help determine where the sleeve will fall on your wrist.

I believe that the pictures show a good representation of the fabric colors however, please remember that colors may look different on your monitor. This is a vintage item so there may be small blemishes or marks others than those noted in the description. This item has been stored for many years so there may be a slight storage smell although I do not notice one. Items can be hung in the shade to remove odor. Dry cleaning is recommended.
