Pre-made reclaimed denim patch with hand stitched asanoha hemp leaf sashiko pattern

Sorry, this item has sold.

This listing is for the patch shown in the photograph. The patch measures about 5 3/4 inch x 5 3/4 inch (14.6 cm x 14.6 cm) in size and features a hand-stitched sashiko asanoha (hemp leaf) pattern.

This patch was created out of reclaimed denim that was from a clothing manufacturer. The denim pieces would normally be discarded but now they are collected and donated for re-use.

The patch features a sashiko-stitched pattern of asanoha or hemp leaf. I stitched this pattern by hand using Fujix kakishibu dyed, cotton sashiko thread. The thread has a wonderful tan color. Since this is a natural dye, some parts of the thread are a deeper color than others. It gives the patch a wonderful "worn in" look.

The denim is a stretch denim and is made out of cotton and either lycra or spandex. It may also have some other synthetic fibers. When placing the patch on the leg of a garment make sure that the patch can be stretch side to side (not up and down) to match the stretch on the garment.

The patch can be used to cover a hole or tear in a garment or just added for decoration. It can also be placed on a tote bag, couch cushion or anywhere else you want a little embellishment. The patch can be hand-sewn onto the item using a whip-stitch or straight, running stitch. A sewing machine can also be used to sew the patch onto the desired item. I do not recommend glue or iron on interfacing as these typically do not last after a few wash/dry cycles.

The denim is pre-shrunk. It was machine washed and machine dried before and after sashiko stitching was added. I used a natural detergent and no dryer softeners. The patch can be ironed on the cotton/steam setting. It is best to place a cloth between the iron and patch to prevent shiny areas from forming (burnishing).

The edges of the denim were sewn with an overlock stitch, to prevent fraying, and then the entire patch was hemmed so that the front looks neat and tidy.

The denim is a medium blue color. Please refer to the photo with the Crayola brand crayons for the most accurate representation of the color. The crayons were placed in the photo for a color comparison.

The last photo shows the patch placed on a pair of jeans to show how it may look when used to patch the knee or leg of denim jeans.

Please note that if you order a large number of thread or small items the shipping weight may be overestimated. Be assured that I always refund shipping cost overages of $1.00 or more. I try to accurately photograph all items but please remember that color will vary depending on monitor or device used to view photographs.
